Securing a seat in a Missionary Convent School for their child was very difficult for middle class and lower middle class parents in and around Nashik Road and Deolali. Everyone has a right to get education in English Medium. It was the need of the hour to educate the masses in English medium to stand in competition with others. To cater to the educational needs of these parents we came up the vision to start an English medium school. With such good intentions Shri Shriniwas Murlidhar Loya, Shri Vasant Rudrappa Nagarkar & Shri Vijay Kachardas Sanklecha came together to form an educational institution based on strong principles and ethics. A positive support from traders, businessmen, involved in social educational   such other related fields was a morale booster. With a view to pay back the society and to help it progress, a meeting was held on 27th April 1986. On this red letter day ‘THE PROGRESSIVE EDUCATION SOCIETY’ was formed and officially registered. Late. Mr. Uttamchand Premji Chordiya and Mr. Shriniwas Murlidhar Loya were elected as President and Vice-President respectively. Mr. Vasantrao Rudrappa Nagarkar was elected as Secretary of the Society.

The School started on 15th June 1986 in Hingwe bunglow Prakash Nagar, Shikrewadi, Nashik Road in the presence of Ex MLA Late. Mr.Balasaheb Deshmukh and Freedom Fighter The Editor of Daily Newspaper Gavkari Late Shri Dadasaheb Potnis.

Preprimary classes were started in the year 1987-88. The society received the official registration and recognition from the government for starting English Medium Primary School. The Primary School was officially registered as K N Kela School in the year 1987 with a student strength of 120 working in 2 shifts. It was difficult to manage more students in such a small area. Growing response and popularity brought in a huge demand for admission. So the Management decided that it was time for one’s own sprawling premises. So the management started planning to search a place where they could accommodate the growing strength of students. Finally a land reserved for the previous Nashik Road Deolali Nagarpalika, Nashik Municipal Corporation opposite Currency Note Press was found most suitable. After a lot of running around Shri Ratnakar Kulkarni the then Administrator of NMC recognized the noble intention of the Management, their sincere dedication and devotion for this noble cause and sanctioned the land to ‘The Progressive Education Society’.

A grand Bhumi Pujan ceremony was held for the new building on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashmi in the presence of Ex Minister. Pushpatai Hire and other such dignitaries, well wishers and donators on 20th Oct 1988. On the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya the construction work was started.

In the year 1990, the school was shifted to the new building on Jail Road from the bunglow at Shikrewadi. Till 1993 the school ran classes from Std 1st to Std 7th. In the year 1994 the school got permission for High school and started Std 8th. The first batch of Std 10th appeared in the year 1996-97 with 29 students. The result for first SSC batch was 100%. After the first batch result K N Kela High School became the most sought after school. It was looked up with respect. It could stand in competition with convent schools in and around. Parents from all strata started queuing up for admission. There was a high demand from the masses to educate their child in our ‘Socio – Cultured Institution’ that keeps Indian ethos and values as its priority. The school has maintained its standard till date. The students have not only achieved success in the field of academics but also in sports at State and National Levels.

In the year 1995, the management decided to start a new Marathi medium school in Jail Road area. A small school was started in a bunglow of Mr. Gojire Guruji. Within a few years the society purchased one acre of land from Shri Dattopant Adhav. The Society started the secondary section Abhinav Adarsh High School in June 2013, at Narayan Bapu Nagar. The Society proudly acclaims that Abhinav Adarsh Marathi Shala at Narayan Bapu Nagar has a magniminus infrastructure which is high tech and fully equipped with labs and such other state of art facilities. The students have achieved flying colours in every field.

With great results and affordable fees the number of students applying in K N Kela English Medium school started gradually increasing every year. To accommodate this increasing student strength a New English Medium school was started in the name of Blue Bell in the year 2007 with classes from Preprimary to Std 10th.

In June 2008, The Progressive Science   Commerce Junior college (English Medium) was started. More than 300 plus students are receiving education in Science and Commerce stream. Techno savy teachers with digital classrooms and high tech infra structure provide the students the opportunity to grow their social, cultural, emotional mental make-up.

The Silver Jubilee celebration was held on 27th Jan 2012 by the Society. Highly acclaimed educationist Sir Dr. Shri M S Gosavi, Secretary of Gokhale Education Society, Nashik, inaugurated the Silver Jubilee Meet along with Padmashree Shri Krantiji Shah, Chairman of Yuvak Biradri Mumbai. The Former Secreatary of SSC Board Shri B S Suryawanshi, Dep Dir of Education, Shri Tukaram Supe, Education Officer Zilla Parishad Shri B K Dahiphale, Administrative Officer School Board Shri Nitin Upasani were the prominent dignitaries present on this occasion.

The Society is proudly looking forward to the Silver Jubilee celebration of Abhinav Adarsh Marathi Shala in 2020.

The Progressive Education Society has completed 33 years of service to the society in the field of education and plans to continue this in the best possible way in the near future too.
